About The Human Side of Infrastructure

Infrastructure is more than what we build.

It’s the people, organizations, relationships, decisions, and systems that make it possible.

What is Infrastructure Ecosystem Design?

Infrastructure Ecosystem Design (IED) was developed as a way to understand and intentionally design the conditions surrounding infrastructure delivery.

It looks beyond the technical solution to examine what has to work around the work for an outcome to succeed.

Infrastructure does not build, operate, or sustain itself. It exists within an ecosystem.

Beyond Infrastructure

Infrastructure Ecosystem Design was developed for infrastructure delivery. But the dynamics it helps us examine aren't unique to infrastructure.

Across projects, teams, organizations, and communities, there are still questions worth asking.

Rhythms of Stewardship

Sustaining outcomes takes intentional rhythms. The Rhythms of Stewardship help people, teams, and organizations stay grounded, adapt as conditions change, and make decisions that protect what matters — now and in the future.

The Human Side Matters.

Physical infrastructure may be what we ultimately build, but its success depends on the people, relationships, decisions, and systems behind it.

The human side isn’t separate from the infrastructure.
It is part of the infrastructure itself.
